Description of what roleplaying is -
posted on 2/5/2002 by - Drew |
What is roleplaying?
Essentially, it's a group of people telling a story. One
of the group sets the scene, akin to the director of a movie.
The others play parts, like characters in a film or novel.
Dice are used to resolve conflicts, and determine if the
actions a character takes succeed or fail.
Roleplaying is a way of participating in a tale, rather
than passively watching a film or reading a book. You experience
the journey and influence the story. You help shape its
course by
making decisions for the character you play. You are the
hero, the lead,
the star. Your choices affect what happens next.
Roleplaying is the age-old art of storytelling, save the
stories told
are not solely crafted by one person, but many.

Event Overview - posted on 2/5/2002

"It's always darkest before dawn"
is a roleplaying game in the style
of mecha-based anime for four to five players. The game
is systemless, meaning it does not use any mechanics from
published roleplaying systems. Instead, the focus is on
characterisation and story rather than dice and numbers.
No prior experience with roleplaying is necessary to participate
within this game.
"It's always darkest before dawn"
---------------------------------
Genre: Mecha-based Anime
Number of Players: 4-5
Rating: M
System: Systemless
Two empires fight ever onwards, interlocked in a battle
that has crossed stars and spanned worlds for the past twelve
years. Millions have been sacrificed by both sides in the
name of honour. Still, more battles are fought and the blood
continues to flow...
Now, a pivital opportunity to halt to the stupidity and
bloodshed has presented itself. One side or the other could
glean enough of an advantage to cripple their enemy and
emerge victorious from the flames.
It all revolves around an impossible mission, a moral
decision, and the faintest of hopes... Is the sacrifice
of one man's life worth saving millions from a hopeless
future?

Roleplaying-

Roleplaying has been described
as 'collaborative storytelling' and 'make-believe for grown-ups'.
In convention roleplaying, a group of players get together
with a GM (Game Master) to pretend to be other people for
a while. Each player usually adopts one character for the
duration of the game, and describes how that character acts
in relation to the other characters and to the GM's plot.
One or two roleplaying games will be run over the weekend.
There will be 4 or 5 places per session, with entries available
to teams or individuals. Places are limited, so make sure
to register in advance!
